This refinement of Chinese acupuncture has been developed by doctors in the West within the last 50 years. It is at its most effective in treating the 'myofascial' pain often associated with numerous musculoskeletal disorders.
These include many of the common head, spine, arm, and leg pains, e.g. headaches, migraine, whiplash injury, spondylitis, lumbago, sciatica, other neck and back pains, osteoarthritis, or frozen shoulder.
Dr. Zmyslowski qualified from Newcastle University Medical School in 1980, then became a GP.
He has been using the 'trigger point' acupuncture technique to relieve musculoskeletal pain since 1989.
After training with the British Medical Acupuncture Society he obtained the Society's Accreditation in 1995, and Diploma in 1997.
He is a registered provider with the major private health insurers.
It is preferable for you to have a referral letter from your own GP, or hospital consultant, to help decide if acupuncture is an appropriate therapy for your condition.
The cause of your pain should have been diagnosed already, so that acupuncture can commence immediately, if appropriate. Otherwise treatment may have to be postponed pending further tests.
Usually, treatments are given once a week. If acupuncture works for you, you should experience some significant symptom improvement within 4 to 6 weeks.
If there has been no improvement at all after 6 treatments, then more acupuncture is unlikely to help you.
You can contact Dr. Zmyslowski by writing to the hospital address above, by e-mail at acupuncture.dr.zmyslowski@hemscott.net , or by telephoning him on mobile 07941-146-740.
